In her simply sophisticated works, Brisbane-based Kate D creates a delightfully contemporary, yet refreshingly primitive vision that both amuses and inspires.

Focused on the subtle connections between her characters, Kate Diggles draws upon memories, observations of daily life and human nature. Each piece is designed to enhance its environment, encouraging viewers to enjoy her works for what they are, and avoid taking life too seriously.

The ancestor of Sylvester Diggles ( c1800s pioneering artist, musician and ornithologist), Kate is largely self taught and has built a strong following in recent years through exhibits and commissioned works for clients. She has been featured in several local galleries and has had exposure abroad via an international exhibit in Chelsea, New York.

In more recent years, Kate has shifted toward more private commission-based work, evolving her medium of choice from chalk pastel on paper to oil on canvas.

“My work commands attention via subtleties of facial expression - drawing the viewer to the relationship, and perhaps the mood, of the subjects depicted.

My purpose is to evoke a positive emotive response: to provide light hearted perspectives of the human condition”
